SAT

The SAT is a globally recognized college admissions assessment used to test students in Math, Verbal and Writing skills.  The SAT is offered 7 times per year and SAT Subject Tests are offered 6 times per year. SAT Subject tests are SAT tests in a particular subject (Calculus, US History...) and are only necessary if the college you are applying to requires them.

On March 3rd, all Cypress Bay High School Juniors will be taking the SAT on campus.

Students are automatically registered, but must physically come to school on this day to participate in the administration.

Khan Academy, a FREE tutorial service that has partnered with the College Board provides FREE full length practice tests, thousands of FREE sample questions, and will prepare a FREE personalized analysis of each individual student's strengths and weaknesses.

The PSAT (practice SAT) which will be given to all sophomores  will be based on the RE-DESIGNED SAT test.  This is a GREAT way for 9th - 11th graders to see what the re-design will look like before roll-out.  All students who sit for the PSAT will be able to log in and send their PSAT test results straight to Khan Academy for FREE personalized analysis and practice. All 11th graders who sit for the PSAT will be considered for the National Merit Scholarship. National Merit winners score extremely high on the 11th grade PSAT. I recommend students send their scores to up to 4 universities they plan to attend each time they register for a test. Most universities superscore, meaning that schools will ONLY evaluate students based on their HIGHEST score in each section, taken across all tests the student took. If they send scores upon test registration, the scores will be sent to up to 4 schools free of charge. If students wait to send scores, they will be charged $12 per test per school, not to mention they might miss college application deadlines if they don't send the scores in a timely manner. All 11th and 12th grade students who are on free or reduced-price lunch are entitled to 2 free SAT tests and 2 free SAT Subject tests. These students should come see me for the test fee waivers.
